Soul meets style: A modern wedding with heart

There are weddings that simply look beautiful, and then there are weddings that feel beautiful. Charlotte and Jake’s celebration was the perfect fusion of both; a soulful, sentiment-filled story wrapped in effortlessly modern style. Their day at Newby Hall in York was a reflection of everything that made them unique as a couple: creative, grounded, and deeply in tune with their story. Every detail, from the florals to the fashion, felt intentional and personal.

Their wedding embodied a balance between old-world romance and contemporary cool. It was the kind of celebration that not only captured hearts on the day but also inspired others to rethink what a “modern wedding” can mean. One that’s not about trends or perfection, but about weaving your love story into every moment. The result was a day that felt stylish and editorial, yet warm, emotional, and deeply personal.

DESIGNING A WEDDING WITH SOUL & STYLE

From the very first meeting, Charlotte had a clear creative vision. As Head of Photography for a London production company, she approached everything through a visual lens; storytelling through detail, composition, and emotion. She wanted her wedding to feel like an extension of that artistry, combining her talent for design with touches that spoke to her and Jake’s love story.

Together, we focused on creating an atmosphere that was both refined and deeply heartfelt. Sculptural floral arrangements, clean lines, and modern tablescapes provided a sense of understated luxury. Yet, every design choice carried meaning, from the textures that echoed their travels to the color palette that reflected the tones of their engagement in the Scottish Highlands. The result was a space that felt modern and soulful, where every element told a story and every guest could feel their love woven into the details.

FLORAL INSPIRATION, FROM THEIR SCOTTISH ENGAGEMENT

The couple’s engagement in the Scottish Highlands became the beating heart of their design story. That moment surrounded by wild landscapes and the soft, moody beauty of the highlands, inspired the floral brief in a profound way. Purple heather, a native flower that symbolizes admiration and good luck, became an essential thread running through the design.

To bring that sentiment to life, we incorporated potted heather plants into the larger arrangements, creating a beautiful link between their engagement and their wedding day. These plants were later gifted to the couple to take home, allowing the memory of that day to continue growing, quite literally.

It’s a small detail, but one that captures a powerful idea: your wedding flowers don’t have to end with the day itself. By choosing living, meaningful elements, you can carry your story forward into your home and your future. It’s these thoughtful touches that transform a visually stylish wedding into something unforgettable.

A HEARTFELT CEREMONY LED BY FAMILY

Few moments are as deeply personal as being married by someone who knows you better than anyone and Charlotte’s ceremony was the ultimate reflection of that. Her mother, a vicar, officiated the wedding in a charming local church, filled with history and heart. The space itself is adorned with historic stone architecture, and the ceremony was filled with emotion, laughter, and joyful tears, as Charlotte and Jake exchanged vows in front of their closest family and friends.

To frame this deeply special moment, we designed large, dramatic floral urns that balanced soft, romantic blooms with structured, modern shapes. The florals were intentionally sculptural, echoing Charlotte’s love of design, while the colour palette brought warmth and depth to the traditional church setting. The contrast between the contemporary styling and the timeless surroundings created a striking harmony. The perfect reflection of how modern weddings can still feel connected to heritage and family.

MODERN BRIDAL STYLE, WITH A VINTAGE TWIST

Charlotte’s vintage wedding dress was another symbol of blending eras and emotions. The gown had been lovingly sourced and then tailored to fit her like a dream, reshaping it into a modern silhouette while preserving its classic charm. The result was breathtaking, a piece that felt both nostalgic and completely current. It wasn’t just about fashion; it was about storytelling through fabric, craftsmanship, and detail.

This same philosophy carried through to the entire design. Every texture, colour, and composition in the wedding echoed that blend of tradition and trend. The tables featured soft linens paired with bold sculptural centerpieces, while the venue and styling created a mood that was intimate yet editorial. It was a masterclass in how to modernize something timeless, whether that’s a dress, a design concept, or a family tradition, without losing the soul at its center.

A CHIC YORK WEDDING AT NEWBY HALL

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to Newby Hall, one of York’s most elegant and storied venues. The atmosphere was joyful and relaxed, with everyone spilling out onto the lawns for drinks and canapés in the sunshine. The day unfolded with effortless ease, laughter echoing through the gardens, music floating in the air, and beautifully styled spaces inviting guests to relax and celebrate.

As evening fell, the celebrations transitioned seamlessly into dinner and dancing, with candlelight and music setting the scene for a night that no one wanted to end. The next day, guests were invited back to Charlotte’s family garden for a relaxed garden party filled with live music, delicious food, and plenty of reminiscing. It was the perfect way to round off the weekend. A continuation of warmth, connection, and joy that defined every moment of their celebration.

Charlotte and Jake’s wedding is an inspiring reminder that the most beautiful celebrations are the ones that tell a story. The most memorable designs are the ones where style meets soul.

When you infuse your celebration with pieces of your journey, a flower that reminds you of where you got engaged, a family heirloom, a ceremony led by a loved one, your day becomes more than just an event. It becomes a living story.
